Comments

How people comment on what you share, at a moment in a video, and how you hear about it.

People you share a link with can comment on it, right next to the screenshot or recording. On a video, a comment can point to the exact moment it is about.

Comments are part of the Web app plan, for the person who shares. Anyone with the link can read and write comments without paying. See Plans and billing.

Comment on a clip#

The comments are on the right of the clip page, or under it on a phone.

  1. Open the link.
  2. Type in “Add a comment…”.
  3. If you aren't signed in, type your name in “Your name”.
  4. Click “Post”.

Comments on a recording, each pinned to a moment.

New comments appear on everyone's screen within a few seconds, without reloading the page.

A comment can be up to 2,000 characters. You can post up to five a minute.

Comment as a guest#

You don't need a catu account to comment. Type a name and post; your comment shows that name with the tag “Guest”.

Your browser remembers the name. Next time the box says “Commenting as” your name, with “Change” to use another one.

To comment with your catu account instead, click “Log in” under the box. Sign in in the new tab, then come back: the page updates by itself.

Your browser is how catu knows a guest comment is yours. In a private window, or in another browser, you can't edit or remove comments you wrote as a guest.

Comment at a moment in a video#

On a recording, a button next to “Post” shows the time where the video is, for example “at 00:42”. It follows the video as it plays.

  • With the button on (the default), your comment is pinned to that moment.
  • Click it to turn it off, and the comment is about the whole recording.

Pause the video at the right moment before you post, so the marker points where you mean.

Jump to a moment#

A comment pinned to a moment starts with its time, for example 00:42. Click the time and the video jumps there and plays.

Reply to a comment#

  1. Click “Reply” under the comment.
  2. The box says “Replying to” and the person's name. Type your reply.
  3. Click “Reply”.

Replies sit under the comment they answer. A reply has no time marker: it belongs to the comment above it. A reply to a reply joins the same thread. Click “Cancel” to stop replying.

Edit or remove your comment#

To edit:

  1. Click “Edit” under your comment.
  2. Change the text in the box.
  3. Click “Save”.

The comment shows “edited” next to its time.

To remove, click “Remove” under your comment, then “Remove” again to confirm. The comment is replaced by “Removed.”

You can edit and remove only your own comments. Your comments are marked “You”.

Your controls as the owner#

On your own clips, your comments are marked “Owner”, and you can:

  • Remove any comment. Click “Remove” under it and confirm.
  • Block a guest. Click “Block” under one of their comments, then “Block” in “Block this guest?”. Their comments on the clip are removed and they can't comment any more.
  • Choose who can comment: “Anyone”, “Signed in” or “Off”. See Passwords, expiry and downloads.
  • Keep commenting while the link is off. When sharing is off or the link has expired, nobody else can open the clip, but you still see its comments and can add your own, for example notes on what to fix. See Turn sharing off and on.

You also see the comments on the clip's page in your Library, and you can reply there. See Your Library on the web.

Emails about your clips#

catu emails you about your own clips, and nothing else.

When someone comments. You get an email with who commented, on which clip, the comment itself, and the moment if it has one. A button opens the clip. If you comment on someone else's clip while signed in, you also get an email when someone replies to you. Your own comments never email you.

To keep your inbox calm, you get at most one comment email an hour for each clip. Anything posted after that is rolled up into one email, such as “3 new comments on Onboarding walkthrough”, with the first few quoted.

The first time someone opens a link. You get one email, such as “Someone opened Onboarding walkthrough”, with the country and the kind of device. It is sent once per clip, for the first view only. Opening your own link while signed in doesn't count.

Turn the emails off#

  1. On catu.app, click “Settings” at the top of the page.
  2. Under “Emails”, switch off “Comments”, “First view” or both.

Or click “Stop these emails” at the bottom of any email from catu. It turns off that kind of email: comment emails from a comment email, first-view emails from a first-view email. You can switch them back on in “Settings” at any time. See Your account and emails.

If something doesn't work#

  • There are no comments on the page. The owner has turned comments off for this clip.
  • “Only signed-in people can comment here.” Click “Log in”, sign in in the new tab, then come back to the clip.
  • “Too many comments. Wait a minute.” You have posted five comments in a minute, or fifty in a day. Wait and try again.
  • “You can no longer comment on this clip.” The owner has blocked you.
  • You don't get comment emails. Check “Settings” › “Emails” on catu.app and your spam folder. If several comments came within the hour, they arrive together in one email.

Checked against the app on 29 October 2026.
